Ellison papers, 1964-1964.

Summary: This small collection contains two handwritten letters written by Ellison to Yndia Moore at the Arizona Pioneers Historical Society dated 1964. The letters describe his childhood growing up in Globe and his experiences as a cowboy. He also describes his manuscripts and his technique of writing. The letters were sent in envelopes which Ellison illustrated; one in ink and one in watercolor. Also included in the collection is a watercolor of a cowboy roping cattle.

Glenn Reynolds Slim Ellison, cowboy, storyteller and author, was born to Pearl Grafton and Lourinda Frances (Price) Ellison in Globe, Arizona on July 19, 1891 and lived almost his entire life in Gila County. Ellison served at various periods as a cowboy, trail driver, homestead rancher, and camp cook in central Arizona and received little formal education. Biographical note: Glenn R. (Slim) Ellison was born in Globe in 1891. He spent very little time in school and was a rancher in Pleasant Valley most of his life. He became a "cowboy author" and published three books describing his early years and his ranching experiences in Arizona. He was also an artist, drawing and painting western ranching scenes.
